Dear arbitrators, lawyers and scholars,

With the further promotion of “marine power” and “The Belt and Road”  national strategies and initiatives, China, as the world’s largest shipbuilding country, is active in seizing the shipping market through a number of high-end ship orders. According to the latest data, shipbuilding completion, new orders, and handheld orders of China are in the first place in the world in 2017. In 2018, the government report also suggested to strenghthen marine economy, including the shipbuilding industry. But in the aspect of legal risk, Chinese shipbuilding industry is still facing severe challenges. Especially after the financial crisis in 2008, Chinese shipyards, which had high price shipbuilding contracts, often encountered abandoning ships, but they could not win the advantage in law. Therefore, how to avoid, prevent and resolve the risk in the execution of shipbuilding contract is an important issue in Chinese shipbuilding industry.

As the only national professional maritime arbitration institution in China, CMAC has heard numbers of disputes caused by shipbuilding contracts, and has been committed to promoting the risk prevention and dispute settlement capabilities of domestic shipbuilding enterprises.

To help legal practitionners and enterprises understand the theory and practical knowledge of shipbuilding contract arbitration, CMAC invited senior partner Mark Sachs from Thomas Cooper LLP. to give a lecture on March 26, 2018. Mr. Mark Sachs will share his evaluation and analysis of the China shipbuilding contract based on relevant arbitration cases. Mr. Mark Sachs,  proficient in Chinese, has rich experience in the field of maritime arbitration. We sincerely expect your attendance.
