On May 18, 2018 (New York time), CMAC and Holland & Knight Law Firm (Holland & Knight) co-organized a Sino-US Maritime Arbitration Seminar. Holland & Knight is an international law firm with more than 1,200 lawyers and other professionals in 27 offices throughout the world. Mr.Eric Lee, partner of Holland&Knight once visited CMAC in March, 2018 and this Sino-US Maritime Arbitration Seminar comes as a meaningful result of the meeting between both sides.

At the seminar, Holland & Knight’s 24 offices across the United States remotely joined the seminar online. Five well-known maritime arbitrators from the New York Maritime Arbitrators Association participated in person. Dr. Chen Bo, Vice General-Secretary and Vice President of the Arbitration Court of CMAC delivered a speech. She dilated upon the development of CMAC, characteristics and advantages of CMAC Arbitration Rules, and the latest development in the Arbitration Law of P.R.C. Prof.Wang Guohua, Dean of School of Law of Shanghai Maritime University, remarked on improving and revising the conflict law rules in the Maritime Code of P.R.C. Mr.Yan Bing, senior partner of Ricc&Co Law Firm, introduced the Chinese courts’ view on whether the arbitration clause in V/C will be binding on the B/L holder. Mr.Christopher Nolan, partner of Holland & Knight, spoke about key issues of maritime arbitration in the U.S. After the speeches, participants from both sides had a heated and in-depth discussion.

CMAC delegation also visited several leading international companies on May 17, including WK Webster and Navigators Insurance, to discuss and exchange views.
